For those of you who are electronic music composers and are fans of Enigma, here is the legendary flute sound used in the first Enigma CD. I also used the flute sample in my Enigma style song, “Ancient Voices.” Play the video below to hear the Enigma flute used in my song “Ancient Voices.”
From the research I have done, I found that the flute sound is the Shakuhachi flute sample from the Emulator II sampler sound library. However, I also found that it is the Shakuhachi flute sound from the Ensoniq EPS 16 Plus. This beautiful flute sound was also used by Peter Gabriel in his song, “Sledgehammer.”
Right click on the file name to download the Shakuhachi wav file. It is 1.2 megs in size and a great sample. To really get the Enigma sound, add some reverb and delay.
Man ,, you are awesome
I don’t know how to thank you , you make my day.
Yup! I was searching for it for a long time, but now I found it and loaded in my Tyros 2. Thanks a lot!😁
Just amazing. I just wish I was as creative
hi, I would love to have this sound in my Gem genesis s … how much experience can do not tell me how do I get there. Just copy this file smaller? This file is only 400kb.
Or there is another way?
best regards
Unfortunately, I do not know. Maybe another person will comment and know how to help you.
Thank you … but to any device just copy this file?

My God!! you are awesome man…..i was in search of this sample for years… Extremely thankful to you..can you share the sample rate and bit rate of this file.
I do not know the sample rate. I found the sample online a few years ago and saved it to share.
Can you please share the midi file
I do not have a midi file for this.
Hi, really really thanks for this sample! I was looking for it since various months although I’ve gotten it some time ago more and it’s stored in my hd. 😀
A question, could I use it for a soundfont? Of course credit goes here for you.
Thanks in advance!
I’m not sure if you can use it as a soundfont although I do not see why you couldn’t. Credit does not go to me as it is not a sound I created. A few years ago I was looking for this sound for my sampler and after several hours of searching the internet I found it. I decided to make it public here so it would hopefully be easier to find for other musicians who wanted to use the sample.
Of course it’s quite easy to turn this sample into a soundfont, the trouble comes when working with lots of them.
Then I’ll be making this new soundfont in order to have this fantastic flute in our midis or sequences!
I’ll make reference to this site anyways.
Another thing, do you know if the comercial libraries (including that one made for Contact have this and other great sounds from the Emu II? Just to know if it might be worth buying.
Thanks again!
I don’t know what to say man you are the one and only big time bless.
Hi, thanks for the sample. Funny enough I was messing with some of my old soundfont files and found this patch in one of them. And just as a curiosity, the very same sound is used in the song “Exterminate” by Snap! and in the Police Academy 2 movie, during the kung fu scene. Cheers.
Peter Gabriel used this on “Sledgehammer”(1986),
Vangelis used it on “The will of the wind” (1988)
and Tangerine Dream used it on “Yellowstone park” (1985).
Awesome sound, thanks for the .wav file!
I used it on my Halloween song. Check it out.
Tell me what you think.
